Data Breach

What does Equifax do?

Equifax is a credit reporting agency that makes
credit scores for people based on the past credit
information of previous credit.

Social Implications/Effect on Society

After the data breach in September 2017, over 143 million
Americans lost their personal information to the hackers.
With credit card information out, your credit score
will be terrible, and people can make purchases with
your money. Millions of people worldwide are now paranoid
about their personal accounts and credit information being
released.

Effect on families/Recourse

Mainly people in North America, were effected. However,
there were still many who got hacked in the UK and Asia.
Luckily, my family was not effected. If you got hacked,
you would know because there would be charges on your credit
account that you didn't purchase. Also, you could be located
in some foreign country that you're actually not in. For those
who got hacked, the recourse is a small amount of money, around
$130, which is not nearly enough for what some families went through.
